Miller Gardner probe: Costa Rican officials confirm carbon monoxide poisoning

Officials in Costa Rica have confirmed the official cause of the death of Miller Gardner, the 14 -year -old son of former New York Yankees The player Brett Gardner, who died in mysterious circumstances on March 21, while on family vacation.

The initial investigation in the days that followed Miller’s tragic death focused on asphyxiation, which was then ruled out. The investigation then turned to food poisoning as a possible cause of death, but on Wednesday night, the director of the Costaricen Judicial Agency (OIJ), Randall Zúñiga, said that the results of toxicology confirmed that he died as a result of Carbon monoxide poisoning.

“It is important to keep in mind that adjacent to this room is a dedicated machine room, where it is believed that there may be some type of pollution to these rooms,” said Zúñiga.

Zúñiga said that Miller was tested by carboxyhemoglobin, a compound generated when carbon monoxide binds to blood hemoglobin. The test showed a 64%saturation level. It is considered lethal when carboxyhamoglobin saturation exceeds 50%.

Earlier this week, the OIJ suggested that carbon monoxide poisoning was probably the cause of death, but hotel officials denied those statements. A hotel spokesman told Pak Gazette Digital that the hotel levels “were nonexistent and non -lethal.”

The Gardner family said in a statement after Miller’s death that several family members fell ill during the trip.

“We have many questions and so few answers at this time, but we do know that he died peacefully as he slept on Friday, March 21,” reads the statement. “Miller was a beloved son and brother and we still can’t understand our life without his infectious smile. He loved football, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, his family and his friends. Life lived to the fullest every day.”
