- The permission to build the Data Center in Hertfordshire has been approved
- The owner is likely to be a hyperscaler operator, although a dark company made an application.
- It is expected to extract 400MVA from the national network when you are going to live in 2030
Who does not enjoy a good whodunnit? Approval has been granted to build a large data center in Hertfordshire, the United Kingdom, near the London M25 highway, but the identity of the future occupant, it is believed that it is an important hyperscala operator (so potentially AWS , Microsoft, Google or Meta) is still unknown.
The planning application was submitted last year by DC01 UK LTD, and approved by HERSMER important role.
After the news, a spokesman for DC01UK said: “We want to thank the City Council of Hetsmere for its open and pragmatic approach of the DC01UK plans. They understand our ambition for both the project and the municipality. It will bring huge benefits for local people through a stronger local economy, more qualified jobs and better opportunities. Our plans also include a series of updates for local transport, including new and existing bus routes, the expansion of the local cycle rental scheme and road improvements. “
Operation for 2030
DC01UK will be the cloud and the largest data center in Europe, with up to two million square feet of space, and draw 400MVA (Megavolt-Ampers) of energy from the national network, which is sufficient electricity to feed 20,000 houses. 400MVA is the total food supplied, including the real power (MW) and the reactive power (MVAR, which explains the inefficiencies in the system). The location of the project, which is just east of South Mimms Services, places it near the Elstree substation (Letchmore Heath).
DC01UK states that “economic projections estimate the construction value of the project at £ 3.75 billion with a generation throughout the year of £ 21.4 million in commercial rates once the data center is operational. The positive economic impact of the data center would also see the creation of 500 qualified jobs on the site during the construction phase, 200 permanent and qualified jobs once in operation and another 13,740 indirect jobs, 10,900 would be in southeast. It is also estimated that DC01UK generates approximately £ 1.1 billion per annual GVA (gross added value) indirectly per year. ”
The data center will be built in 85 land acres (54 percent of which DC01UK says it will be preserved as green spaces) with the planned construction to begin in 2027. The data center is expected to function in operation three years later in 2030.
As for who could this hyperscator be? The registration A DC01UK spokesman said: “Since the announcement last September, we have received a significant interest and there are active and continuous discussions that will be finished in the near future. We will make an additional announcement in due time”, which seems to suggest that DC01UK does not know who will move to your data center either.
