Framework is better known for its modular laptops that can be customized to meet their needs and, unlike many of today’s computers, they can also be easily repaired. The company has just presented its latest notebook, the Laptop 12 Framework, which has us overwhelmed, but even better than that is the company’s first desktop system.
Call (as you will have guessed) Desktop Framework, the new product is a 96.8 mm x 205.5 mm x 226.1 mm, 4.5 liters, 3.1 kg mini pc. If you ask how small that is, the image above shows it next to a banana for the scale.
Framework Desktop Diy Edition, which is available to pre-order now with the expected shipping in the third quarter of 2025, is aimed at users who want a high-performance mini PC and easy to update with AI capacities, but do not want to waste the type of rival cash systems such as the cost of the Mac Studio and Nvidia digits of Apple, with the base model that backed only $ 1099.
Highly customizable
Because it is of framework, the device is highly customizable. The system presents two processor options. The AMD Ryzen AI Max 385 has 8 nuclei, 16 threads, a 3.6GHz base watch, a 5.0GHz impulse and 32 MB of L3 cache, while the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 increases this to 16 nuclei, 32 threads, a base clock of 3.0 GHz, a reinforcement of 5.1gz and 64mb L3 cache.
Both processors have built -in GPUs, with the AI Max 385 running up to 2.8 GHz with 32 computer units, and the AI Max+ 395 reaches 2.9GHz with 40 computing units. An NPU on board provides 32 mosaics and up to 50 yield tops.
Memory options include 32GB, 64 GB or 128 GB LPDDR5X-8000, according to the processor. The storage is provided through two NVME PCIE 4.0 m.2 slots, with a maximum 8TB capacity per slot. The motherboard follows the mini -it form factor, and the system admits up to four screens. Connectivity includes AMD RZ717 Wi-Fi 7, Realtek RTL8126 5Gbit Ethernet, HDMI 2.1, Displayport 2.1, USB-C with USB4 and USB-A 3.2 Gen 1.
Cooling options include nightly fans and Cooler Master. A custom thermal dissipator with six copper heat and aluminum fins is included. The 400W Flexatx power supply complies with the ATX 3.0 standards and presents an efficient cooling fan with a zero RPM mode.
The box is built with 30% recycled plastic after consumption and 50% recycled aluminum. One thing that we especially like is the customizable front panel, which has spaces for 21 mosaics so that you can dress it as you want, and there is also an option of side panels: black or translucent.
