“The Minnesota twins are horrified and disconsolate by the murder of the representative Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark and the attempt to kill Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette,” said the report of the twins. “Our deepest sympathies with the Hortman family, and our prayers are with the Hoffman family for a complete recovery. We are with all the minnesotanos to condemn these acts of meaningless violence.”
Before his game against Los Angeles Sparks, Lynx maintained a moment of silence.
“(The game) seems quite meaningless, certainly, hitting this near home,” said Lynx chief coach, Cheryl Reeve, before her game, through ESPN. “Today is a difficult day. Basketball is what we do. We will go out and do what we do. But God knows what, when our game ends, God knows what we are going to leave the court and learn what is happening. It is disgusting.”

“Our state lost a great leader,” Governor Tim Walz said at a news conference on Saturday morning, describing the incident as an “indescribable tragedy.” The Hortman speaker was someone who served the people of Minnesota with grace, compassion, humor and a sense of service. She was a formidable public servant, an accessory and a giant in Minnesota. He woke up every day determined to make this state a better place. She is irreplaceable and will be surprised by so many minnesotans. ”
Walz was “cautiously optimistic” about Hoffman and his wife surviving. Both were shot several times.
“This was an act of specific political violence,” Walz said. “Pacific discourse is the basis of our democracy. We do not resolve its differences with the violence or gun tip in the state of Minnesota.”
