Islamabad:
The Senate Subcommittee on Human Rights examined on Wednesday the bill of the National Minority Commission 2025.
The subcommittee meeting was held under the president of Senator Ali Zafar. During an informative session on the bill, the Secretary of Human Rights said that the president of the Commission would be appointed of the minority communities, while the prime minister will have the authority to appoint the head of the Commission.
The National Minority Commission will consist in 19 members with experience in human rights services. The Commission will include three members of the Hindu and Christian communities, and one of the Sikh, Parsi and Kalash communities. Two commission members will be Muslims. One member each will be taken from the Islamic Ideology Council and the Evacuee Trust Board. One member each will be appointed from all the provinces and the Federation. The maximum age for the members of the Commission will be 40 years.
The commission is being established to protect minorities rights and will be responsible for formulating a national action plan. It will be granted with the powers of a civil court. I could seek government reports or any other department, according to the Secretary of Human Rights.
The Minister of State for Religious Affairs, Khael Das Kohistani, supported the bill, saying that it is good to approve the bill as soon as possible.
