Isabelle St. Cyr, a competitor of the transgender beauty contest that competed in Miss Maine USA during the weekend, opened an interaction with Jordon Hudson behind the scene.

Hudson was the second finalist in the contest in the midst of a few tumultuous weeks that began when he closed a question for her boyfriend Bill Belichick about how they both met. The interruption was during Belichick’s interview in CBS about his new book in which he described Hudson as his “creative muse.”

St. Cyr said the conversation with Hudson was about the scrutiny of the media they both received when they entered the contest.

“We had a conversation behind the stage and we thought: ‘You know, the media have not necessarily been friendly to us.’ We simply talk about how we have treated it, how to move forward, how to remain positive and when to comment and not comment,” St. Cyr told People in a story published on Tuesday. “I really appreciate your willingness to talk about the coverage of the media.”

St. Cyr regretted the coverage of the media and said they both expected negativity because “this is how people receive clicks.” St. Cyr said Hudson helped her realize that they were not alone in that regard.

“And she admits that a lot of reaction still appeared in the contest that night to compete, and I also, with a lot of reaction and many people who say that they should not be there.”

Shelby Howell, from Bangor, was named Miss Maine USA.

San Cyr, from Monson, was a semifinalist. Hudson, who represented Hancock, won the “Style” award.

Hudson seemed to have a message for critics during the event. They asked him how he was going before his response.

“I feel a lot of pride at this time,” he said through Mass Live. “I hope that anyone who is seeing this finds the strength to boost whatever is happening and embodies that hate never wins.”

When asked at what time in life he would like to return, Hudson said he wanted to be transported back to his family’s fishing boat.

“I think of this often because there is a massive exodus for fishermen who occur in Rural areas of Maine, and I don’t want to see more fishermen leave this place,” he said. “As his next Miss Maine USA, I would like to go to the communities … to go to the government and advocate these people so they don’t have to think about these memories as a past moment.”
