Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning It is, we’re told, Tom Cruise’s last appearance as Ethan Hunt and, although we’re not convinced we’ve seen Hunt’s back, his last so far. Mission: Impossible The film says goodbye with a certain style.
in our Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning review we described it as “a huge [and] messy victory lap for cinema’s biggest action franchise.” In fact, while it’s one of the best Mission: Impossible Movies, the story is a bit convoluted and the first hour could have done with less exposition.
Why Mission: Impossible 8 is a must-see movie
Look
In addition to Cruise, there is an absolutely stellar and well-rounded cast. Cruise’s fellow franchise stalwarts Henry Czerny, Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg are also back for their characters’ last hurrah, and there are plenty of other new and returning faces to keep an eye out for, too.
In fact, Hayley Atwell, Esai Morales and Pom Klementieff reprise their roles as Mission: Impossible 7. Meanwhile, newcomers are Mariela Garriga, Holt McCallany, Janet McTeer, Nick Offerman, Hannah Waddingham, Tramell Tillman, Shea Whigham, Greg Tarzan Davis, Charles Parnell, Mark Gatiss, Rolf Saxon, Lucy Tulugarjuk, and Angela Bassett.
On the other side of the review-based divide, different outlets gave their verdict on Hunt’s eighth mission. Empire magazine gave the film four out of five stars, saying: “A tense, complicated opening act gives way to some of Tom Cruise’s most impressive stunts yet, ending the film, and perhaps the series, on a high.” On the other hand, GamesRadar/Total Film was also quite impressed, offering three and a half stars and adding “[it] concludes this spy franchise in spectacular style, with Tom Cruise in top condition, even if his villain lacks terror.”
The Guardian was even more enthusiastic in its praise; the UK newspaper giving The final reckoning the full five stars and comparing Tom Cruise to comedy legend Harold Lloyd. “It’s a tremendously silly and tremendously entertaining adventure,” noted its reviewer, before adding that Cruise is “always young, always in shape, and never says die before this absurd Armageddon clock. What a rush!”
