The Rockies of Colorado became the second team in a week to make a change on the bench in the middle of an abysmal beginning for the 2025 season.
The rockies announced that they separated from Manager Bud Black and bank coach Mike Redmond. The third base coach, Warren Schaeffer, was appointed interim manager, while Clint Hurdle was appointed interim banking coach.

“Our play so far this season, especially in the last two seasons, has been unacceptable,” said the rock team owner Dick Monfort, in a statement. “Our fans deserve better, and we are able to improve. While we all share the responsibility of how this season has been developed, these changes are necessary.
“We will use the rest of 2025 to improve where we can in the field and to evaluate all the areas of our operation so that we can correctly convert the page into the next chapter of rock baseball.”

Colorado suffered a shameful defeat by 21-0 against San Diego’s parents. The team recovered one on Sunday 9-3. It was only his seventh victory of the season in 40 games. Opposite teams have had a field day against rockies. The team’s race differential is -128. Colorado has only scored 133 races this season.
The rockies have not reached the playoffs since the 2018 season. It was also the last time the team ended more than .500. Colorado was 61-101 last season after going 59-103 in 2023.
Black assumed the position of manager in 2017. He had 544-690 in more than eight years to the helm.

The rockies were the second team to fire their manager in the last seven days. The pirates fired Derek Shelton earlier for the week.
