MNA sound alarm on the denial of women’s inheritance

Islamabad:

The legislators of the PML-N presented a notice of attention at the National Assembly on Wednesday by legislators of the PML-N regarding the persistent denial of inheritance rights to women.

The Minister of State of Railroads, Bilal Azhar Kayani, informed the Chamber that a total of 1,772 complaints had been registered regarding the denial of inheritance to women.

He added that a dedicated aid line had also been established to address such complaints.

“The federal people are playing an active role in ensuring that women receive their legitimate participation in the inheritance,” said the minister, while asking the Judiciary to accelerate the procedures in cases of inheritance that involve women instead of issuing suspension orders that delay justice.

Speaking on the subject, PML-N MNA Shaist Pervaiz Malik questioned the gap between legislation and application. “The truth is that there are wide laws regarding the rights of women: we, where is the implementation?”

Kayani acknowledged the problem, saying: “I recognize that inheritance laws related to women are not effectively implemented.”

PML-N legislator Naz Tanoli deplored that women were often deprived of their rights by the local Panchayats and Jirgas, which continue to function parallel to the formal legal system.

Given this, the Minister of State said women have access to registration to registration through the 1099 aid line.

Meanwhile, the president of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami party, Mehmood Khan Achakzai, who also directs Tehreek-E-Tahafuz-E-Ain, presented a resolution urging the house to ensure that women receive their total participation in inheritance.

“Any Muslim who denies a woman his participation in the inheritance in contradiction with the Qur’an is violating his commandments,” said Achakzai.
