Senator Irfan Siddiqui, from the Pakistan Muslim League, Nawaz (PML-N) accused Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi of pursuing Israeli-style policies into Kashmir, claiming a commitment to transform the region occupied into “Other Gaza”.
In a publication on the social media platform X (previously Twitter), Irfan Siddiqui wrote that India under Modi could no longer be called the largest democracy in the world, stating that it had become “the field of killing the greatest for Muslims and other minorities.”
He accused the Indian government of replicating Israel’s repressive policies in occupied Palestinian territories, particularly Gaza, and applying them in Jammu and Cashmiro illegally occupied (Iiojk).
“Modi is following the Israeli policy model,” said Irfan Siddiqui. “He is trying to turn Keza into another gaza.”
Referring to the recurring threats of India to cut the water to Pakistan, Irfan Siddiqui warned about serious consequences. “If India places the first brick of any dam that drown our rivers, the answer will be with stone, not silence,” he said, added that such actions would be treated as an act of war.
His comments come in the midst of the growing regional tension and criticisms on India’s policies in Kashmir, particularly after the revocation of article 370 in 2019, which stripped the region of its special constitutional state. Since then, the rights groups have given alarm by generalized restrictions, arbitrary arrests and demographic changes.
Previously, hundreds of Pakistani joined throughout the country, even in Azad Kashmir, to protest against the threats of retaliation of India after a deadly attack against civilians in Iiojk on Tuesday.
The demonstrations occurred after the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, promised to “pursue and punish” the perpetrators of the assault on Tuesday in Pahalgam, who killed 26 civilians and was the most fatal attack in the region played in more than two decades. Modi accused Pakistan of supporting what he described as “cross -border terrorism.”
Previously, Kashmir students in several Indian states have reported that they faced threats and harassment after the mortal attack in Pahalgam, Iiojk, who claimed the lives of 26 people, mostly national tourists.
According to the Iojk Student Association, students in states such as Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh are supposedly told to vacate their houses and rented shelters shortly after the attack.
What is happening in Gaza?
The number of death in Gaza has exceeded 51,400 after Israeli air attacks killed 84 more Palestinians in the last 24 hours, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health. The total number of injured has now reached 117,400 since the conflict intensified in October 2023.
The last deaths included the victims of an air attack in a school housing displaced in families in northern Gaza. Attack brands continued violence despite an agreement of high January fire that had briefly stopped the fight.
Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest orders for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a case of genocide in the International Court of Justice for its war in the enclave.
