- More details of the Apple Studio Display 2 have been leaked
- 32 and 27 inch models could arrive
- Apple has several product launches scheduled for next week
We’ve got more details rumored about potential successors to the Apple Studio Display, and it looks like two models are on the way, potentially offering different sizes and specs to tempt more discerning monitor buyers.
The new information comes from Macworld (via MacRumors) and is based on “internal Apple files.” There are two models referenced in these files, codenamed J427 and J527, and that suggests two different variations of the Studio Display 2 are coming.
We may be about to see a 32-inch and 27-inch Apple Display Studio 2, according to the report, with the larger model offering a superior sound system and improved port selection, as well as additional screen space.
Both models are apparently set to get ProMotion support for refresh rates up to 120Hz, while it also seems likely that both models will support HDR. At least one Thunderbolt 5 port has been mentioned, supporting 5K resolution at 120Hz.
A release next week?
In terms of design, we don’t expect any changes and there are no cosmetic tweaks mentioned in this report. The current Apple Studio Display offers a 27-inch screen and measures up to 23 inches (58.3 cm) tall, depending on the stand it has.
This latest report follows several previous leaks about this updated monitor. Considering that the first model came out in 2022, a second-generation model is definitely planned, which could feature a switch to mini-LED technology for its display.
In early February, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Studio Display’s shipping times were starting to slow, suggesting an upgrade is in the works, with an updated internal chip, most likely the A19 used in the iPhone 17.
Gurman estimated that a new model could appear in early March, and if you don’t know, Apple has a big week of product announcements, starting Monday. Watch this space.
