More than 100 damaged houses when sudden floods reached Ghizer District of GB


The sudden floods hit the Roshan Valley in Ghizer District of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) at dawn on Friday after an explosion of the glacier, damaging more than 100 houses and forcing hundreds of families to flee, officials said.

Ghizer, about 200 km from GB, was one of the worst blow valleys in recent floods, with at least 10 deaths reported.

The torrential rains last month in GB caused sudden floods and landslides, leaving more than 200 tourists and trails stranded.

At least five people, including four tourists and a local resident, lost their lives. The authorities reported from 14 to 15 main road blockages caused by sudden rocks, debris and floods, cutting access on key routes such as Babusar Top and parts of the Karakoram road in Lal Parhi and Tatta Pani, where several vehicles were trapped.

Pakistan’s army deployed helicopters to evacuate the stuck in isolated areas, while heavy machinery was used to eliminate sections from the Thalichi road to Chilas, with liquidation operations that continue in Tatta Pani and Jalipur.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also announced an RS4 billion help pack for the GB region of flooding, along with the plans for a 100 megawatt solar energy project.

GB Faizullah Faraq government spokesman said The express trustee That the waters of the floods swept a centenary bridge, submerged agricultural lands and orchards, and washed a one -kilometer road section.

“An artificial lake of seven kilometers has formed due to floods, increasing the risks for surrounding villages,” he warned.

“More than 100 homes have been directly affected, forcing large -scale displacement as families move with their belonging to safer places,” he said, added that cultivation lands, orchards, a wooden factory, flour mills and other infrastructure had also been destroyed.

The spokesman confirmed that all stranded people had been rescued, but “hundreds have already been displaced and are moving with their belongings to safer areas.”

He added that government teams are carrying out aid operations in the region.

Rescue 1122 officials warned about an artificial dam created in Roshan, saying that if it explodes, the Ghizer River could trigger floods in lower parts of the city of Gilgit.

The authorities added that mosque and imambargah ads are being made to alert people about caution evacuation. The emergency service emphasized that these steps were being taken “to reduce possible losses in case of an unpleasant situation.”

GB Prime Minister Haji Gulbar Khan visited the affected areas to review aid operations, accompanied by provincial engineer Mohammad Anwar and Rahmat Khaliq, the defender of the Nazir speaker and legislator Nawaz Naji. The attached commissioner Ghizer informed the prime minister about losses suffered by local communities.

The CM ordered the immediate evacuation of the areas affected by floods to safer places and directed officials to provide relief and medical assistance. He also thanked Comandante FCNA for quickly launching a rescue operation.

Separately, more than 700 people have been killed and almost 1,000 wounds in incidents related to the monsoon throughout the country since June 26, according to the National Authority for Disaster Management (NDMA). In Punjab, at least 165 people have died and another 584 have been injured due to rain -related incidents.

Of the total deaths, at least 356 were reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). In Karachi, at least 10 people lost their lives as strong flooded neighborhoods, paralyzed traffic and caused generalized power cuts, which led the mayor to declare a rain emergency.
