Pakistan will be the host of his first important tournament of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in almost three decades, with more than 13,000 police personnel deployed in the cities of Lahore and Rawalpindi for security.
The event, the ICC Champions Trophy, will take place from February 19 to March 9, and will take place in Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi.
The deployment occurs after years of security concerns following a 2009 militant attack against the Sri Lanko Cricket team in Lahore, which led international teams to avoid tours to Pakistan.
After the attack, the Pakistan Cricket scene fought to organize international teams, but the situation began to improve in 2019 with the return of the Sri Lanka test team.
In later years, foreign players have participated in the national T20 leagues of Pakistan, marking a slow but constant return of the international Cricket.
This year’s tournament will see Pakistan who organizes eight teams, but India’s matches will take place in the United Arab Emirates. India’s refusal to send his team to Pakistan comes from the security concerns of his government.
To guarantee the safety of players, officials and fans, more than 13,000 police officers will be on service during the matches in Lahore and Rawalpindi.
More than 8,000 officers will be assigned to safety tasks in Lahore, while more than 5,000 will be parked in Rawalpindi. The senior officials, district superintendents, inspectors and official women will be part of the security force.
The Punjab Police General Inspector, Dr. Usman Anwar, declared that the police are carrying out intelligence based on the residences of the players and throughout the team routes to the stadiums.
The authority of safe cities will monitor the area through cameras, ensuring security in stadiums, hotels and other places. The police units will carry out regular patrols during the matches, and the snipers will be placed in high buildings around the stadiums to ensure additional protection.
Dr. Anwar assured the public that the authorities are committed to providing a peaceful and safe environment for the tournament, urging fans to follow all security and security protocols.
The tournament will be presented in three places: Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi. Both Lahore and Karachi stadiums have suffered extensive renovations to improve the visual experience of spectators and improve the quality of the transmission.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will mark the return of Pakistan to organize the main international Crickt tournaments, since it was co-elanfitrion of the 1996 World Cup with Sri Lanka and India.
As the country prepares for this milestone event, the authorities do not leave stone without moving to guarantee the safety and soft organization of the ICC champions trophy, sending a message of resistance and commitment to the world of Cricket.
