- Hybrid environments, scattered tools, and poor team coordination decrease observability
- IT teams agree that observability is key and 90% believe AI could help them
- However, AI is not without its usual challenges.
New data from Solarwinds claims that around three-quarters (77%) of IT teams lack the visibility they need in hybrid environments, explaining the additional complexity involved with a mix of on-premises and cloud.
Modern and evolving infrastructure appears to be outpacing monitoring and observability tools, and many have had to resort to purchasing more solutions; However, 55% say tool proliferation is now also a problem.
And it’s not just the tools that are to blame: three in four say that poor coordination between teams also further limits observability.

IT teams are rapidly losing observability
Despite the poor state of the current situation, two-thirds (64%) say complete visibility is important to success and there is a clear need for proactive protection rather than reactive “firefighting.”
But with systems and environments showing no signs of simplification anytime soon, artificial intelligence may be the key to success. AI is already helping to reduce noise and speed up operations, but 90% are now confident that AI could also help them improve observability.
Some of the most pertinent use cases for AI include automating incident prioritization (47%), accelerating root cause analysis (45%), predicting capacity and performance issues (45%), and reducing alert fatigue (45%). Improved efficiency could also lead to significant cost savings.
“AI should do more than reduce alerts — it should sharpen prioritization, streamline workflows, and give teams the space to focus on strategy instead of looking at dashboards,” wrote Abigail Norman, senior director of product marketing at SolarWinds.
All that said, businesses still face big challenges when adopting AI, with security concerns being the most important (47%). Skills gaps (42%), technological complexity (41%), employee reluctance or resistance (37%), and budget constraints (33%) are also restrictive.
Looking ahead, it is clear that hybrid infrastructure and an increasing range of tools will continue to hinder observability, so the need for more powerful unified tools is clear.
