Next year is just around the corner and with it comes CES, the world’s largest annual technology show, where many major brands will reveal what they believe will be the next big thing. Sometimes they can’t help but mess up their own ads. For example, Motorola’s elaborate CES invitation suggesting it will launch a Motorola Fold phone.
Motorola already makes foldable products (the foldable-style Motorola Razr line), but it hasn’t given us a book-style foldable one yet. That looks like it’s going to change, given two key clues from his invite (via Android Central).
The first is a note that says: “We are preparing to unfold new perspectives.” This suggests that Motorola is working on some kind of new foldable style.
A book-style foldable would make a lot of sense, given that it’s the other common foldable phone design we’ve seen from Motorola’s rivals, but to add to the speculation there’s a lamp included with the invitation that opens like a book, with glossy pages that fan out to highlight the design.
As with all developments, we should take speculation with a pinch of salt (it’s very easy to misinterpret Motorola’s suggestions), but a new foldable phone to rival the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 makes too much sense for the tech brand for us not to be a little excited that it’s a very real possibility.
Especially since Motorola specializes in cheaper foldables compared to its rivals, although it also makes some premium foldables.
Foldable phones have always been quite expensive (the Z Fold 7 costs $1,999.99 / £1,799 / AU$2,899), but Motorola could offer a solid option at a lower cost. We still expect a Motorola Fold to cost more than $1,000 / £1,000 / AU$2,000, but hopefully it will sit somewhere between that and the Z Fold 7, perfect for people who don’t want to demolish their bank account but would like a tablet-sized screen that can fold into their pocket.
I love foldables like the Z Fold 7, but I admit they are very expensive.
We’ll be attending CES to cover the latest news on the ground as it happens, so be sure to check back in early January to follow the big tech news as we enter 2026.
