Peshawar:

Almost a year and a half after the general elections, the provincial assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) will finally be fully constituted with the induction of legislators in reserved seats. These legislators will lend their oaths today (Sunday).

A session of the KP Assembly will begin at 9 am in Peshawar in which a total of 25 members of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) will provide their oath. These legislators include 21 women and 4 minority members, all belonging to opposition parties.

The seats reserved in the KP, where Imran Khan’s PTI is in power, could not deal with a controversy over the reserved seats, in which the ruling party claimed. However, the PTI lost the legal battle for the seats reserved on June 28.

Later, the Pakistan Electoral Commission (ECP) distributed the reserved seats between the opposition parties: the PML-N, the PPP, the JUI-F, the ANP and the PTI-Parliamentarians. According to the final distribution of the ECP, both the PML-N and the JUI-F obtained seven seats reserved for women.

The PPP obtained 5 women and 1 minority seat, totaling 10 seats in the assembly. The ANP and the PTI-PARLIAMENTARIES each received 2 general seats and 1 for women. A women’s seat was decided among them in a coin launch.

The Senate elections for seven general seats, two seats reserved for women and two seats reserved for religious technocrats/academics are scheduled to be held at the KP Assembly on July 21 (tomorrow).
