The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has announced plans to celebrate Muhajir Culture Day on December 24, 2024 at the Governor House in Karachi.
The event aims to highlight the cultural heritage of the Muhajir community and their contributions to the history of Pakistan, Express News reported.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Bahadurabad, MQM Pakistan President Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui revealed the date and emphasized the importance of celebrating the diverse cultures within the country.
He stated: “Muhajir culture is a national asset and we must show openness by respecting each other’s cultures.”
Dr Siddiqui was joined by senior party leaders Dr Farooq Sattar and Anees Qaimkhani, who also expressed their support for the event.
The MQM leader also highlighted Karachi’s role as a melting pot of diverse cultures and stated, “Karachi is a bouquet where people of diverse languages and cultures celebrate together.”
Muhajir Culture Day aims to focus on the legacy of Pakistan’s founders and the rich cultural contributions of the Muhajir community. The event will also include discussions on the history and importance of “kurta pajamas”, a traditional dress that represents culture.
MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar added that Sindh is a peaceful province, home of the great Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai. He described Karachi as the heart of Pakistan’s cultural diversity and highlighted that Muhajir Culture Day would serve as a bridge for national unity.
The announcement also received support from Governor Sindh, who endorsed the initiative and termed it as a positive step towards fostering national harmony. MQM Pakistan has urged its workers and supporters to actively participate in the celebrations to make the event a success.
