KARACHI:

Majlis-e-Wahdate Muslimeen (MWM) leader Allama Hasan Zafar Naqvi has said that the sit-ins are peaceful and do not represent political groups. The Sindh government should not make us a prey for political benefits. We will end the sit-ins if the people of Parachinar do so. He expressed these views at an emergency press conference at the Numaish Chowrangi sit-in.

Speaking to the press, Allama Naqvi said that the MWM is aware of the problems caused to citizens, which is why there is no complete call for the sit-in yet. If sit-ins are called across Sindh, the government will not be able to stop them, he said, warning authorities not to put undue pressure on the Jafariya community. He said the community will not tolerate anyone’s dictatorship and the protest sit-ins will continue.

Naqvi said they have been sitting at the Numaish Chowrangi sit-in for six days, and the sit-ins are peaceful and free of sectarianism, where people of all faiths and religions come to express solidarity. “We have no demands for negotiations; if the people of Parachinar end their sit-in, we will too.

The protests have been carried out at the request of Allama Raja Nasir Abbas and will end with his call. “All Jaffariya community organizations are participating in the protests.”

Naqvi further said that all the sit-ins taking place in the city are peaceful and raising voices about the basic problems in Parachinar. He regretted that basic supplies in the conflictive region cannot be supplied by helicopters, since the area is home to a population of 500,000 people. He said that it is not a sit-in by any party, it is a sit-in by the oppressed, where everyone participates, including the Ahle Sunnat communities, who have set up water camps for the protesters.
