I have fallen in love with a new game called Tied to the crack. It is a card game derived from League of Legendsand it’s absolutely fantastic – you can check out a much longer article on my Tied to the crack obsession for more details and discovering why it could be the TCG everyone was waiting for.
Here, instead, I want to talk about the best way to experience the new game: Proving Grounds. This starter kit and board game comes with four solidly solid pre-made decks headlined by popular League champions (Annie, Garen, Lux and Master Yi). Includes cardboard mats to help you layout your games, giant Battlefield cards to battle with, and plastic tokens so you can keep track of your points.
I’ve played it with two players and with four, with players who are TCG fans and people who aren’t, and every game has been great. People can learn the rules quickly and with multiplayer there is a lot of room to form temporary alliances in a more effective way than I’ve felt in other multiplayer TCG formats (I’m thinking mainly of Magic: The Gathering Commander)
It’s reasonably priced at $29.99 / £29.99 / AU$59.99, but there’s one problem: you won’t find it anywhere for that price. Neither in the official Riot store nor anywhere else.
As you would expect from a card game based on one of the most popular gaming franchises in the world, with the immensely popular MOBA, several successful spin-offs and the phenomenal Arcane Netflix series – Tied to the crack It has been selling like hotcakes and in many places it is out of stock or offered at a hugely inflated price.
There’s good news, though: Riot announces that it’s aware of the issues and has several plans to try to rectify them, including restocks, reprints, and “programs” to “incentivize partners and provide them with rewards for engaging in player-first behavior, including reasonable pricing.”
This includes new stock, which Riot promises will “arrive in local game stores between now and the end of the year.”
So this Black Friday and as we approach the festive period, I know what I’ll be keeping an eye out for: more Tied to the crack packs, and you should definitely have the game (especially the Proving Grounds box) on your radar.
