The National Assembly on Friday approved a resolution to increase the maximum age limit for candidates that appear in the Central Higher Services (CSS) examination of 30 to 35 years, with the new policy established in force since 2026, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported.
The measure, introduced by the Pakistan-Nawaz Muslim League (PML-N) MNA Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar, was taken before the camera after a successful motion to suspend the procedure rules. The resolution was approved without opposition, which reflects broad parliamentary support.
Together with the increase in the age limit, the resolution also allows candidates for a total of five attempts in the CSS exam. Legislators urged the government to implement these changes without delay to give possible applicants sufficient time to prepare under the criteria reviewed.
The CSS exam serves as a key entrance door to federal Pakistan elite services, including administration positions, foreign matters, customs and other civil sectors. Traditionally it has attracted the new university graduates and young professionals, with strict criteria of eligibility in terms of age and number of attempts.
When raising the age limit and allowing an additional attempt, the new measures aim to expand access and provide greater flexibility for applicants who may need more time to prepare or enter the workforce later.
