Islamabad:
Pandemonium seized the National Assembly on Monday after the speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq declared that no member would be allowed to speak “in favor” of Fitna al-Khawarij or against the operation ongoing, generating uproar and protests from the opposition banks.
The session loaded, marked by slogans, screams and strikes, quickly became what the observers described as a “assembly within an assembly.”
Opposition legislators, led by Mahmood Khan Achakzai, formed two rows in front of the sperand of the speaker and began to pronounce their own speeches, intensifying the interruption and abandoning the house in uproar.
Previously, journalists in the press gallery organized a strike in the call of the Association of Parliamentary Reporters to protest as a cheerful verbal abuse of the senior journalist Ijaz Ahmed by the founder of PTI Imran Khan during his judgment by Adiala.
In response, Sadiq’s speaker sent members of the Treasury and Jui-F banks to persuade journalists. After his return, MQM legislator Khawaja Izharul Hassan presented a resolution condemning the behavior of PTI’s founder and demanding security for Ijaz Ahmed.
“This house strongly condemns the behavior of the founder of PTI and demands protection for the senior journalist Ijaz Ahmed,” said the resolution.
The president of the PTI, the lawyer Gohar Ali Khan, said his party supported the freedom of the press, but said the matter needed clarity. “Let me know at least and discover what happened between the founder of PTI and the journalist,” he added.
In the midst of the noise, Federal Minister Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh managed to cover the ease of the 2025 Business Law, which was approved by most votes despite the shouts and protests of the opposition.
The law minister, Azam Nazeer, Tarar, attacked the opposition, saying: “If the opposition has the courage, allow them to openly support Fitna-E-Khawarij. Instead of taking privileges here and shouting, leaving and maintaining its own assembly.”
The MQM Asia Ishaq legislator also rose emotionally to declare that “no one will be allowed to speak against the army or the favor of the terrorists.”
The session was postponed until 11 in the morning on Tuesday (today).
