Islamabad:
The Permanent Committee of the National Assembly on Industries and Production has opposed a proposal to close public service stores throughout the country.
During the permanent committee meeting chaired by Syed Hafeez Uddin, the members of the Committee said that around 16,000 employees will be unemployed in case of closing public service stores. They cited the Federal Minister saying on the floor of the Assembly that the Corporation of Public Services stores would not be closed. Despite security, if the USC is closed, it will damage the holiness of the house, said the NA panel.
The committee member, Raja Pervez Ashraf, said that if the departments are closed on the basis of corruption, then the whole country will have to close.
He said that if there are defects, the government should eliminate defects. USC is an important department where people receive a prices relief, and add “we firmly oppose the movement of the USC closure.”
Ashraf said that it is not appropriate that only a few people make the decision to close an apartment, and added that Parliament should have taken in confidence for making any decision.
