The increasing administrative and financial problems at the Federal University of Arts, Science and Technology of Urdu have attracted the attention of the National Assembly as their Permanent Education Committee summoned Vice Chancellor Dr. Zabta Shinwari on Monday.
The NA panel meeting, chaired by the president of the Committee and the one attended by Federal Minister of Education Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui together with 21 members, will present complaints from the members of the Faculty related to the lack of payment of wages and pensions, suspension of medical assignments and heavy teaching workloads.
The teachers of the University of Islamabad of the University, in consultation with colleagues in Karachi, presented complaints that claimed two or three months of wages, were pending, the home allocation had been retained for more than a year, and the medical facilities withdrew practically. They alleged that the teachers were forcing up to six courses per semester, far beyond the standard teaching loads and even against the recommendations of the VC Committee itself.
The letter also claimed that the teachers were forced to take summer classes without pay, despite the fact that the university collected millions of rupees in rates. The Faculty also complained to be restricted to 20 days of annual departure compared to 48 days for non -teaching staff.
The teachers accused the administration of harassment against those who expressed concerns, including issuing letters of explanation and the formation of research committees. Questions were also raised about the legality of the university union, which the Faculty affirms that it is incomplete and operating with interim and unauthorized deans officials, in violation of the University Ordinance.
