NA president sets deadline to elect PAC head

ISLAMABAD:

National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has given the PML-N-led federal government and the opposition (PTI) a deadline to reach a consensus on the next chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), the arm of parliamentary accountability.

Answering a question during the Presidents’ Conference held in the federal capital on Friday, Sadiq said if no consensus is reached on the matter in the next week, a meeting of the PAC will be called and the president will be elected on the spot. Sadiq reminded both parties that it is a parliamentary tradition that the PAC presidency passes to the opposition.
