The National Committee of the Assembly of Information and Radiodifusion met Thursday at the PTV headquarters under the presidency of MNA Punain Baloch to discuss issues related to Pakistan television (PTV). The Committee was informed that PTV won RS7.5 billion in advertising revenue in fiscal year 2023–24, exceeding its objective of 6.2 billion RS6.2. The income goal for the current year is also expected to be met. Despite this, PTV continues to face financial challenges. According to reports, an important part of the 10. Billion RS10 billion is used through the TV license rate in electricity bills for salaries and pensions. Management attributed delays in salary payments to diverted funds for international financial obligations and the purchase of international media rights. The Committee was also informed about a higher audience resulting from programming improvements and the new on -screen talent, as well as continuous efforts to update the pension management system in collaboration with the Punjab Information Technology Board. The details of the employees breached and politically designated during the current restructuring process were also shared. When addressing the late assignment of plots to journalists in the sectors of Islamabad, F-14, F-15, and Bhara Kahu, the Committee ordered the Ministry to complete the scrutiny of the application and resolve the complaints related in two months. In the Pemra bill (amendment) 2025, moved by MNA Asia Naz Tanoli, the Committee reviewed the report presented by its subcommittee headed by Mna Mehtab Akbar Rashdi. Pemra was aimed at providing his comments on the recommendations. The committee instructed PTV, Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) and Shalimar Recording and Broadcasting Company (SRBC) to guarantee the disbursement of wages and pensions to all employees before the next EID. Previously, the committee unanimously approved a resolution praising the professionalism of Pakistan’s armed forces to defend national sovereignty against Indian aggression.
