The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced the issuance of national identification cards (CNIC) computerized for unique life for people with disabilities and organ donors.
These cards will have a wheelchair symbol to facilitate the easiest identification and access to services.
According to a Nadra spokesman, the Pakistani government has approved amendments to the 2002 national identity card rules.
As part of these amendments, Nadra will issue special identification cards for people with disabilities and those who have donated organs, with the aim of improving their convenience and recognition.
The new identification cards for people with disabilities will be life cards, with the wheelchair logo. These will be available for both Pakistani citizens who live within the country and those who reside abroad.
In addition, juvenile identification cards (forms B) for special children will also carry the wheelchair symbol.
Registration with relevant federal or provincial authorities will be mandatory for people with disabilities to obtain these cards.
In addition, organ donors will receive a special life card with a wheelchair and a donor symbol, provided they are registered with the relevant donor registration authorities.
Nadra confirmed that the notification with respect to these changes will be published in the next Pakistan Gazetteafter which the amendments will be officially applied.
Previously, Nadra is closing its website and replacing it with a mobile application for all services, due to fraud problems and the difficulties that citizens face, particularly Pakistani abroad.
The new application will provide services such as national identification cards, NICOP, POC, B forms and more. The website will be deactivated from January 17.
In addition, Nadra plans to open three new regional centers in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gwadar and Gilgit-Baltistan before March 31, 2025, to improve the provision of services in remote areas.
The government is also working to establish Nadra’s offices in 19 remaining tehsils throughout Pakistan.
Mishera reports of the NADRA online verification system by some police officers have been made, supposedly providing confidential data to criminals and scammers.
In response, Nadra has implemented passport processing counters 24 hours in Mega Centers in the main cities such as Karachi and Islamabad.
