Islamabad:
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, and the president of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, met Sunday in Islamabad, with discussions focused on the “attitude” (PTI) of Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf during recent negotiations with The Government.
A statement from the Ministry of Interior said that the two leaders deliberated on matters of mutual interest and the general political situation in the country.
He also added that PTI’s attitude, despite the positive progress carried out by the Government for negotiations, “was also discussed.
Naqvi praised Sadiq’s efforts to promote dialogue between the opposition and the ruling coalition. “Ayaz Sadiq has played a commendable role in the elaboration of the government and opposition parties,” said Interior Minister.
The meeting also mentioned the “economic improvement” of the country and government initiatives to address public complaints.
The conversations between the government and the PTI had initially begun in December 2024 after more than a year of growing tensions. However, despite the weeks of discussions, the negotiations hesitated on key disagreements, mainly the formation of two judicial commissions and the release of PTI prisoners.
The PTI boycotó the fourth round of conversations this week, protesting the delay of the Government in forming judicial commissions to investigate the events of May 9, 2023 and November 26, 2024.
While the ruling coalition extended an invitation for PTI to join the process through a proposed parliamentary committee, the opposition rejected the offer.
Negotiation teams included members of several political parties. The ruling coalition was represented by politicians of the PML-N Party, PPP, MQM-P, PML-Z and Baluchistan Awami, while the opposition team included PTI leaders, Majlis Wahdat-E-Muslimeen and the Ittehad Sunnita Council.
