Hyderabad:

With the vocal expressions of disapproval that are reiterated again and again against the construction of six new channels in the Indo River, the Nationalist parties of Sindh organized protests and blocked roads in different parts of the province. Meanwhile, Jeay Sindh Mahaz also blocked the national road in the district of Shaheed Benazirabad on Sunday, demanding a safe recovery of the lawyer Aamir Ali Umrani, who has allegedly undergoes the forced disappearance.

Jeaay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz leader Sanna Qureshi directed a protest in the part of Dera Mour in the Kashmore-Kandhkot district on the border of Sindh-Punjab. The demonstration suspended the movement of interprovincial traffic for several hours. “There is no prey, no channel is acceptable in the Indo River,” said Qureshi. “If they do not take us seriously, we are organizing a sitting today and tomorrow will be elsewhere.”

He lamented that the center has already taken oil, coal and gas from Sindh, the water being the last important resort that remains with the province. Qureshi said that illegality in the districts of the divisions of Larkana and Sukkur has made people’s life miserable when citizens are unprotected before dacoits. “After sunset, these districts become areas of not going.”

He asked people to wake up and raise their voice to obtain their rights. “The people of Sindh have divided through tribal clashes.” Qureshi said he will take the peace missions to visit all the tribes that are trapped in tribal avengas.

Separately, Qaumi Awami Tehreek leader, Ayaz Latif Palijo, also directed a manifestation of protest in Kashmore-Kandhkot to denounce the stubborn decision of the center to move forward with the channel project. “Do not convert Sindh into a sterile land under the outfit of some development initiative for the country,” he warned.

He blamed federal and provincial governments for suppressing farmers in Sindh by using force. He blamed the Popular Party of Pakistan and his provincial government for having retired from defending the rights of Sindh and his people.

President JSM Riaz Ali Chandio, speaking in a protest sitting on the national road in the district of Shaheed Benazirabad, demanded Umrani’s urgent release from those who stopped him illegally. “If it is not released in 24 hours, a closing blow in Benazirabad would be called.”
