Nationalists, intellectuals reject six water channels

Karachi:

The six water channels that are built in the Indo River will not only destroy the agriculture of Sindh, but will also mark urban areas, including Karachi.

At the Conference of the Sindh unit organized by Jeay Sindh Mahaz (JSM) at the Karachi Press Club on Thursday, the speakers demanded that the Government allowed the legitimate part of Sindh’s water. “It is not only for our agriculture, but we will not have water to drink,” said Riaz Chandio de JSM.

“People in urban areas believe that the construction of six channels in the river is a purely related problem to rural areas,” he explained. But, he added, the people who live the urban areas of Sindh, especially in Hyderabad and Karachi, will face the consequences rather than those living in distant areas. He appealed to the Karachiitas to take collective measures against the project.
