Rawalpindi:
The construction of the high passage of Nawaz Sharif in Khawaja Corporation Chowk in Adiala Road has been completed and the elevated step has been opened for public traffic.
Although an official inauguration was scheduled for June 30 by Punjab Prime Minister Maryam Nawaz, the ceremony has been postponed.
The high step, completed at a cost of RS2.3 billion, is part of a larger infrastructure development project that includes two underground steps and an underground pedestrian catwalk in Mall Road.
These projects have also been completed, built at a cost of more than RS4.38 billion. However, they remain closed until the main minister provides a new opening date.
According to the officials of the Department of Communication and Works of Punjab, once the approval is granted, the underground steps in Mall Road will also open for public use, similar to the early opening of the high passage of Nawaz Sharif.
Meanwhile, plans to build additional underground steps in the Qasim market, the race course and preside over Cross in Peshawar Road have been completed. A proposal for two high steps and three underground steps in Kachehri Chowk is also being considered, although the Punjab government has not announced the official time for the start of work in these projects.
