Nawaz to help solve Baloch Imbroglio

LAHORE:

The former prime minister, Nawaz Sharif, said he will take a step forward to go to Baluchistan’s security crisis after Eidul Azha, after the calls of the legal fraternity that urges him to take care of the situation before he leaves control.

President of the Bar Association of the Supreme Court Muhammad Rauf Atta and the president of the Bar Association of the Superior Court of Baluchistan, accompanied by Federal Minister Azam Nazir Tarar, met with Nawaz Sharif in his Lahore residence to discuss security concerns in Baluchistan.

The meeting, requested by Rouf Atta, was aimed at persuading the head of the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) to break its political silence and take the lead to resolve the crisis.

According to the reports, Nawaz, who has remained largely outside the policy, felt bad a day before and confined to bed, that the PML-N cited as the reason for his non-presentation at the recent meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, convened following the training attack of Jaffar Express.

Speaking to The Express PAkGazette, Rauf Atta said they urged Nawaz to take the initiative to find a political solution to the crisis, emphasizing that this problem was beyond politics.

“We have asked Nawaz Sharif to break his political silence for the good of Baluchistan,” Atta said. “We have asked him to involve Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Nawab Akhtar Mengal, Nawaz Raisani and other key figures to design a political solution.”

He said that while they recognized multiple attempts to cut Nawaz’s ties with their people, this time, the bets went beyond politics.

Atta pointed out the growing deprivation of rights among the people of Baluchistan, stating that those in power lacked public roots. He stressed that genuine leadership should be able to take care in the province, unlike the current members of the Provincial Assembly, whom he claimed to avoid public interaction.

He also emphasized the need to activate the local government system to guarantee public participation.

The president of SCBA also offered the platform of the Bar Association if Nawaz decides to convene a conference from all parties (APC) on the subject, committing to guarantee PTI’s participation as well.

“Lawyer associations are neutral and do not belong to any political party, so all interested parties would respect and recognize our efforts,” he said.

Atta added that Nawaz seemed deeply concerned about Baluchistan’s situation and assured them that after EID, he would hire Fazlur Rehman and consult Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on his return to Pakistan.
