South Carolina’s female basketball coach, Dawn Staley, said he would have taken the work of New York Knicks coach Knicks if he had offered.
Staley, 55, interviewed for the position before the Knicks hired Mike Brown in July.
“I would have had to do it. Not only for me. For women. Break (that door) open,” Staley said in the “post moves” podcast. “I would have had to.

Staley was one of the many candidates that the Knicks interviewed for their vacancy in the chief coach. The Knicks also interviewed the former coach of the Charlotte Hornets, James Borrego, the former Memphis Grizzlies coach, Taylor Jenkins and Micah Nori, assistant to Minnesota Timberwolves.
Staley said he thought he did well in the interview, but questioned whether he hurt his possibilities when asked the Knicks how they would handle the impact of hiring the first NBA chief coach.
“How, if you hired me as the first chief coach in the NBA, would it affect your daily work? Because I would do it,” Staley said. “They will ask you questions that you don’t have to answer if you are a male coach. There will be media and all these other things you have to deal with with which you did not have to deal with and you don’t have to deal when you hire a man. That made them think, ‘maybe he is right'”.

She said she felt the energy changed after her questions.
“Then, I shot my foot being inquisitive and doing all those damn questions,” Staley said.

Staley is one of the most successful university basketball coaches of all time. She has won three national championships, reached seven Fourth Finals and was appointed AP Trainer of the AP year twice.
It has a professional record of 647-190, well for a winning percentage of .773. He trained in Temple for eight seasons before joining South Carolina before the 2008-09 season and is ready to enter his 18th season with the Gamecocks.
