The NBA fans visualization experience will be different later this year, but there will also be a touch of nostalgia.

Last summer, Universal Comcast/NBC closed an 11 -year agreement for the rights of the regular and postseason games of the NBA and the WNBA. These games will be presented on the linear and transmission platforms of the network from the 2025-26 season. As spectators prepare to make an adjustment to their habits for autumn, the network announced that a tool with AI will help bring a feeling of the 1990s.

The deceased Jim Fagan, whose iconic voice became synonymous with NBC programming in the 90s, will be part of the NBA coverage in the future, thanks to artificial intelligence.

The voice generated by AI de Fagan will be deployed for the coverage of the NBC League. The recreated voice will also be heard in promotional elements selected from October.

These elements will include some title sequences, the show opens and other promotions, NBC announced in a press release. The company will use other voice artists for more traditional jobs.

Fagan’s family granted NBC sports permission to use AI’s voice synthesis technology to recreate the voice of the famous narrator.

Fagan’s daughters, Jana Silvia Joyce and Laughter Silvia-Koonin, issued a statement that said in part: “We are deeply grateful that NBC Sports had the vision of honoring our father’s legacy in such a significant way.”

“For many basketball fans, Jim’s unique and recognizable voice immediately evokes a deep sense of nostalgia for a special moment in the history of the NBA,” said Rick Cordella, president of NBC Sports, in a statement. “His voice perfectly captured the magnitude of the clashes and heavyweight stars he was presenting. It has been a pleasure to work with Jim’s family to recreate his voice and honor his legacy. I am excited that we can present his voice to a new generation of fans.”

Amazon is one of the three partners in the record of the rights of the media of $ 76 billion with the NBA. Disney, the ESPN parent company, will continue its association with the League, according to the terms of the last agreement.

“NBA in NBC” was executed from 1990 to 2002. The TNT association with the NBA began in 1989, with its study show “Inside The NBA” gaining popularity over the decades. But in July 2024, the NBA rejected an offer from the TNT parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), to exercise its right to match a Amazon offer on the one hand of the agreement of the rights of the League media.

In May 2024, the NBA Commissioner, Adam Silver, expressed his confidence that at least two of the stars “Inside The NBA” will continue to cover the NBA in the coming years, regardless of which network the transmission rights have.

“We will never lose Charles (Barkley) and Kenny (Smith),” said Silver. “They will always cover the NBA … I can’t imagine those guys [on ‘Inside the NBA’] They will not perform and announce together in the future, and we all love them. ”

The four prominent faces of “Inside The NBA” will finally remain together, since the program will have a license for ESPN from the 2025-26 season.

The current league media rights agreement will expire in June after the NBA finals.
