NBN CO has revealed its half -year results until December 31, 2024, including data on the number of households that have so far assumed their offer of a free fiber update.
The NBN CO fiber update program has only been in force for two and a half years, and at that time about 594,000 houses have updated their home to the complete fiber to the facilities (FTTP), 217,000 were completed in the second Half of 2024, which is currently capable of supporting the fastest NBN 1000 plans and the incoming level of 2 Gbps expected in September.
A large majority of Australian houses connected to the fixed line NBN Net which will allow 3.5 million houses and businesses served by fiber to the node (FTTN) and 1.5 million premises served by fiber to the sidewalk (FTTC) to update FTTP ”.
In addition, earlier this year, NBN CO announced that it would update the last houses connected to Copper -based FTTN by 2030 thanks to a joint investment of NBN CO and the Australian government. It is estimated that about 622,000 houses will benefit from this investment, with more than half located in Regional Australia.
Together with these figures for its fixed line network, NBN CO also revealed in its latest press releases that its updated wireless network is now available for “approximately 90 percent of the expanded footprint.” In addition, the network supplier is exploring new satellite Internet options to replace the Sky Muster aged network.
All aboard the update train
Given the attractive combination of many more eligible houses to update and the increasingly large value of the fastest NBN plans, there has never been a better time to update.
