NDMA emits alert throughout the country for heavy rains

The National Authority for Disaster Management (NDMA) has issued an alert nationwide, warning of heavy rains, thunderstorms and a greater risk of flood floods of the glacial lakes (GLOF) over the next 12 hours.

At least 90 people have lost their lives, and another 158 have been injured in incidents related to rain throughout Pakistan since June 26, according to the latest figures published by the NDMA on Thursday.

The authority urged local administrations and residents to remain alert, particularly in areas close to rivers and glaciers. According to the NDMA, an increase in temperatures combined with early precipitation has increased the risk of GLOF in northern Pakistan.

Residents have been advised near Riverbanks in Hunza, Shigar, Ghanche and Chitral that have additional caution. The relevant organizations for provincial disaster management and the district have also received instructions to closely monitor high -risk areas.

The weather forecast predicts heavy rains accompanied by strong winds in Islamabad and several Punjab districts, including Mianwali, Khushab, Faisalabad, Okara, Sahiwal, Fine and Bahawalnagar. The NDMA warns of possible urban floods, particularly in low areas.

In Baluchistan, districts such as Zhob, Killa Saifullah, Lorealai, Barkhan, Ziarat, Dera Bugti, Sibi, Chaman, Quetta, Mastung, Kalat, Surab, Khuzdar, Awaran and Panjgur are also expected to experience heavy rains, along with the winds of styles.

The authority warns of possible urban floods, landslides, power cuts and traffic interruptions due to adverse climatic conditions.

NDMA has advised the public to stay away from weak structures, electricity posts and advertising fences during storms. In addition, sudden waves in water flow in local currents are a potential concern.

Emergency response units have been instructed to guarantee the timely deployment of machinery and equipment in vulnerable areas. Tourists who avoid trekking or tourism near the glacial regions due to Glof’s greater risk are specifically warned.

NDMA has also ordered the relevant departments to prioritize the authorization of the road in case of blockages and take preventive measures to administer any emergency. Citizens are urged to remain informed through the mobile disaster alert application of Pak NDMA for real -time weather updates and safety guidelines.

Punjab, the most populous province of Pakistan, reported the largest number of deaths, with 32 deaths, including 18 children.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa registered 30 deaths, 14 of them children. Sindh represented 16 deaths, including eight children, while Baluchistan reported 11 deaths, five of them children. Azad Jammu and Kashmira registered a death.

The NDMA report stressed that of the 90 dead, 45 were children, 29 were men and 16 women. The number of injuries was 158, with 63 children, 56 men and 39 women among the injured.

In addition to the loss of lives, heavy rains have caused significant damage to property, which affects at least 343 houses throughout the country. Of these, 109 houses were completely destroyed, while 234 suffered partial damage.

The authorities urge residents to have caution as the monsoon season continues, while help efforts are underway in the affected areas.
