NDMA issues 48 -hour flood alert in Punjab


The National Authority for Disaster Management (NDMA) has issued a 48 -hour weather alert, warning of monzón torrential rains that accumulate pressure on river basins in Pakistan.

It is expected that the systems driven by moisture originated both in the Bengal Bay and in the Arabic sea unleashed severe rains, especially on the upper and central regions of Punjab, raising the risk of urban floods, sudden floods and landslides.

The Ravi river basin faces the most immediate threat, with reports that indicate a high probability of urban flooding and overflow of the river.

Already in Jassar, the Ravi is emerging at an exceptionally high level of flooding, downloading 202,020 cusecs. Meanwhile, Shahdara and Head Baloki remain at medium flood levels, which raises concerns for nearby communities.

The areas under near monitoring include Narowal, Shahdara and the suburbs of northern Lahore, with vulnerable union advice such as Kot Mahbo, Aziz Colony, Qaiser Town and Faisal Park in the Center for Care.

In Frooezewala Tehsil of Sheikhupura, the tastes of Faizpur Khu, Burj Attari and Kot Abdul Malik have a high risk, while Ganesh Pur in Nankana Sahib remains vulnerable. Kasur Pattoki Tehsil, including Phool Nagar and Kot Sardar, as well as the flood -prone villages of Khanewal such as Ghauspur and Abdul Hakim, they are also being closely guarded.

The authorities have urged residents in these areas to prepare emergency kits with essential elements such as drinking water, dry foods, medications and torches, while they have also been told to local administrations that activate contingency plans and reinforce security measures.
