The National Regulatory Authority of Electric Power (NEPRA) has increased the salaries of the senior officials up to three times.
The increase in salaries was granted the approval of the cabinet, said Express News.
The total salary of the president of Nepra is now 3.25 million, and the salaries of some senior nepring officials have reached RS 2.95 million. The reviewed compensation package includes a basic salary of RS773,000.
According to Express News, Nepra officials approved assignments for themselves depending on the judicial assignments of the judges, with a regulatory assignment that varies from RS 631,000 to RS700,000 per month.
In addition, Nepra officers have received ad hoc relief that varies from RS 587,000 to RS650,000 by 2024, while by 2023, they were entitled to ad hoc relief that varied from RS 544,000 to 600,000.
The report also reveals that by 2022, officers will receive a monthly rental allocation of the House of RS105,000 to RS116,000, while by 2021, it will range between 70,000 rupees and RS77,300 as ad hoc relief.
Other benefits include an assignment of public services of RS 32,000 to RS35,000 and RS 96,000 in other assignments. As a result, the total salary package of Nepra officials has increased from 2.95 million RS to RS 3.25 million, exceeding the salaries and benefits of the judges of the higher courts.
The sources indicate that Nepra officials made these changes without government approval. The majority of the members and the president of Nepra are typically retired bureaucrats.
Currently, the president of Nepra and two members of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Baluchistan are retired bureaucrats.
A few days ago, the National Assembly approved ‘The members of Parliament (wages and assignments) (amendment) bill, 2025’, which supports a 200% increase in the wages and benefits of legislators.
The president of NA, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, directed the session, where six new bills were also introduced, including those that address the protection of the environment and the detection of mandatory talasmia. These bills were sent to the permanent committees relevant to an additional review.
According to the amendment bill, the wages and subsidies of the members of Parliament have been made equivalent to those of the federal secretaries. The monthly salary and assignments for MNA and senators have been established in RS519,000.
Meanwhile, the recent decision of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has denied Karachi electricity consumers significant in their monthly electricity adjustment, which caused strong criticisms of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry ( Kcci).
The president of Kcci, Muhammad, Javeró Balwani, condemned the Neprolish ruling, stating that he deprived Karachi consumers of very necessary relief. He criticized Nepra and K-Electric (KE) for not offering the promised benefits to consumers.
