Islamabad:

The National Regulatory Authority of Electric Power (NEPRA) issued on Thursday two separate notifications, reducing the energy rate at RS2.99 per unit for consumers in Karachi, while increasing the rate at RS0.93 per unit for the rest of the country.

The changes in the rate were made due to the fuel adjustment for the month of March in the case of Karachi and for the month of April for other parts of the country. In any case, the new changes would be reflected in the electricity invoices of the current month.

According to a notification related to the K-Electric rate, the authority “decided to allow a negative FCA of RS2.9898/KWh (negative of RS4.045 billion) by March 2025, to be transferred to consumers in the June 2025 billing month.”

Nepra said that the negative FCA would apply to “all consumer categories, except life line consumers, protected national consumers, electric vehicle load stations (EVC) and prepaid electricity consumers of all categories that opted for the prepaid rate.”

He said that KE would reflect the adjustment of fuel charges compared to March in the June billing month. “The adjustment would be shown separately in consumer invoices based on consumers invoiced in the respective month to which the adjustment belongs,” he added.

According to a separate notification, the authority “has reviewed and evaluated an increase in national average uniform of RS0.9306/kWh in the applicable rate for disc [Distribution Companies] Due to variations in fuel charges for April. “

The notification added that the FCA must be applied to all consumer categories, except life line consumers, protected consumers, EVCs and prepaid electricity consumers of all categories that opted for prepaid rates.
