After the announcement of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of a reduction in electric tariffs, the National Authority for Electric Power Regulation (NEPRA) issued a notification that confirms the price cut as part of the quarterly adjustment, since consumers established a relief of up to RS3.02 per unit.
The notification issued by NEPRA for the quarterly adjustment specifies that the price reduction will be applied for the period from October to December 2024, said Express News.
Price reduction will enter into force for all electricity distribution companies, including K-Electric, for three months, from April to June 2025, which provides a relief from approximately RS56.38 billion to consumers.
However, price reduction will not apply to Lifeline and Prepaid customers. Nepra clarified that distribution companies had requested quarterly adjustment to the lowest electricity prices, which led to an audience and subsequent reduction in monthly fuel prices settings throughout the country.
For Karachi consumers, electricity will be RS3.02 per unit cheaper, while the rest of the country will see a reduction of RS1.90 per unit.
In separate notifications for monthly adjustments, Nepra declared that the relief of prices would begin to reflect on the April invoices of consumers.
For K-Electric customers, the price cut is based on the monthly adjustment of January 2025, while for other parts of the country, price reduction is linked to the February 2025 adjustment.
