- An Animated Crash Bandicoot TV Show Is Reportedly In The Works
- According to What’s On Netflix, production work has already begun
- Amazon reportedly canceled a previous adaptation of the game in 2021
Netflix could be working on adapting the hit video game series Crash Bandicoot into an animated TV show, if this report from What’s On Netflix is true.
While the publication said in a previous version of the article that WildBrain was supposedly producing the show, a spokesperson for the studio has since confirmed that it is not involved.
Still, I’d expect any adaptation of the game to be more family-friendly, like WildBrain’s previous Netflix series. sonic primethan an adaptation of an adult-oriented game like League of Legends Arcane or Tom Clancy’s Splinter cell.
A cartoon-like animation would also be more in line with what was previously in the works, if past Reddit rumors are to be believed. According to a now-deleted post, Amazon and Activision allegedly removed a previous port of the game. However, you can still see alleged test images of the project, thanks to Nintendo Life.
However, I wouldn’t be surprised if the animation style looked more like Netflix’s. Skylanders Academy Animated series, featuring Crash Bandicoot in 3D as a special guest with an Australian accent (Crash is a mutated bandicoot, after all), courtesy of Eric Rogers.
The studio hasn’t revealed or confirmed any more details about the potential Netflix series, but maybe if we shout loud enough, then maybe we fans can force the hand of one of the best streaming services.
What happened to the latest adaptation of the Naughty Dog video game?
Naughty Dog’s intellectual property has proven to be a treasure trove for studios looking to adapt successful video game franchises. From HBO Max the last of us TV show at Ruben Fleischer’s house Unexplored movie, the game developer is behind some of the best games ever created.
So it’s probably not too surprising to hear that Naughty Dog’s Jak and Daxter franchise would also be adapted into a movie with Fleischer at the helm. The director had even gone so far as to tell GamesRadar+ that he had spoken with Tom Holland, who plays Nathan Drake in Unexplored, about being involved.
However, that was in 2022. Since then, there have been no further announcements about the project, which is a shame for fans of the video game series who wanted to see a Jak and Daxter movie.
Could Crash Bandicoot suffer a similar fate? Hopefully not, but I think it’s worth considering that only Naughty Dog games created by original co-founders Andy Gavin and Jason Rubin have successfully made it to the big screen.
After all, Sony, which bought the developer in the early 2000s, is no stranger to adapting games into movies and TV shows, with Twisted metal, Gran Turismo, and Until dawn being only a small sample of what has been produced so far.
Let’s hope there are no obstacles that could ruin a possible Crash Bandicoot series from Sony and Netflix.
