Apple Airtag is one of the best articles trackers, and it is rumored that the second generation AIRTAG 2 is falling at any time. But, although a new leak suggests that the device is almost ready, it seems that it could be delayed in a few months.
This information seems to have been unearthed by Fuentes 9to5Mac and “reliable” cited by the output. We do not have a way to independently verify what they have said, so take this with a pinch of salt.
First, 9to5Mac says that “we can confirm that Apple has already established compatibility with the second generation AirTag in iOS 18.6”.
Based on the launch dates of iOS 17.6 and iOS 16.6, the iOS 18.6 update is likely to land in mid -July, which aligns very well with past rumors that the AIRTAG 2 would fall in the middle of the year.
But before making their hopes, 9to5Mac also states that its sources have told him that the Airtag 2 has now been delayed, with Apple “now pointing to an autumn release.” That could mean that we will not see the device until September, which is when the iPhone 17 range will be announced.

For a few months, several leaks and rumors have driven the idea that Airtag 2 will be launched at this time. Bloomberg’s reporter Mark Gurman, for example, said Apple was pointing to a “around the middle” launch of 2025, and only a few weeks ago declared the device was “almost ready.” Meanwhile, Kosutami filtration said Airtag 2 should arrive in May or June of this year.
With June almost finished, 9th5Mac’s statement that the release window has been retreated remains a clear possibility. That said, there is still a lot of time for the AIRTAG 2 to arrive “around half” of the year (as in July or even in August), so it is not yet a treatment made.
According to the rumor factory, Airtag 2 will come with a better connectivity that could triple the precision search range. Supposedly it will also be more resistant to manipulation, while 9TO5Mac says that its source believes that the AIRTAG 2 will have “alerts for low and very low battery levels.” The website also says that it has a “feeling” that Apple could change to a rechargeable battery on the tracker.
