New rain, snowfall spell to hit the country

The Department of Meteorology of Pakistan (PMD) predicted on Sunday a new rain spell throughout the country this week, with the possibility of granists in Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Islamabad.

The PMD also predicted snowfall in the northern areas, with the expected rain in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan from February 25. Karachi is likely to experience cloudy skies, bringing colder temperatures compared to the previous days.

According to the PMD, a western weather system is expected to enter Pakistan, taking the rain to several regions. Due to the expected rain, the department warned of sudden floods and the risk of landslides in mountainous areas.

“The system is expected to enter Western Pakistan on the night of February 24 (today), it extends to the upper parties before February 25 (tomorrow) and persists in the northern areas until March 2,” he said The PMD.

Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmira will witness strong snowfall and thunderstorms from February 25 to March 2, affecting areas such as Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad and Poonch.

KP will experience heavy rains and snowfall in Chitral, Swat, Mansehra, Abbottabad and Peshawar from the night of February 24 to March 1. Meanwhile, Murree, Galliyat and its surroundings will see moderate to strong snowfall from February 25 to March 1.

Rain and thunderstorms are also forecast for Punjab, which affects Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad and Sialkot. Some southern districts, including fine and bahawalpur, will receive rain from February 25 to 27.

Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman and other areas of great altitude of Baluchistan will experience snow between February 24 and 26. Light rain is also expected in parts of Sindh, including Larkana and Sukkur, from February 25 to 26.
