“Alex has the full support of our organization to prioritize his health and quality of life in the long term,” said Kelly McCrimon, general manager of the Golden Knights, in a statement. “Alex is dealing with hips that would require a bilateral reconstruction of the femur, without a guarantee of success. Throughout the season, the steps Alex should take to play and practice began to grow and significantly affect his body.”
McCrimmon said the team hoped that treatment and rest during the rest of confrontation of the 4 nations would have been enough to recover it on the ice.
“… But instead, what we found were diminished positive results and a process that is no longer sustainable in the future. Alex has given everything to the game and the Golden Knights and has played significant challenges in the search to try to win another Stanley Cup in Las Vegas.
“He is one of the most respected players in the League, not only for his elite talent but for his character, leadership, competitiveness and professionalism. Today’s decision is difficult for Alex and Golden Knights, but it is being done for the right reasons, so that Alex can be the family man that we all know him.”

Pietrangelo signed a seven -year contract with the Golden Knights in October 2020 and helped the team to a Stanley Cup title in 2023, the second of his career, since he already had the cup with the St. Louis Blues.
However, the injuries have affected their body.
“The last years have been very challenging in my physical well -being, and I am in a difficult position with my general game health,” he said. “After exploring the options with doctors and my family, it has been recommended to eliminate the intensity of the hockey to see if my body can improve so that I can return to a normal quality of life.
“This decision has been difficult to reach an agreement after the last 17 years of competition and camaraderie with my teammates and coaches. The probability is low that my body will recover to the standard required to play, but I know that this is the right decision for me and my family.”
