The NFL issued a statement on Friday that addresses a recent tribute to Charlie Kirk before her most recent game, and said the teams will be made to make their own decisions about whether to follow their example this Sunday.
Thursday night’s game among Green Bay Packers and Washington commanders presented a moment of silence in honor of Kirk before the start.
“The moment of the night last night was the decision of the League. It depends on the clubs for the games this Sunday,” said the League statement, according to multiple reports.

The statement also addressed the context of the tribute, comparing it with other moments of silence after the tragedies.
“There have been moments after school shootings or an attack against a cult house such as the synagogue of the Tree of Life in Pittsburgh in 2018. There have also been times after the main international incidents such as Hamas’ attack against Israel in October 2023 and climate -related incidents, such as the main hurrica and fires,” the statement continued.
“This is in addition to honing those in the nfl family from tribute to Recently Players or Personnel, or A Player Such As Damar Hamlin in 2023. The Nfl Also Honorared Before Super Bowl Liv NBA Star Kobe Bryant and The OTher Victims of The Helicopter Crash (Gianna Brya Brya Payton Chester, Christina Mauser, Ara Zobayan) and Also Pro Football Hall of Famer Chris Doceman Who Passed That Week. ”
The League referred to radical changes in field protocols and prior to the game after the death of George Floyd in 2020, and moments of silence after other tragedies in the last calendar year.
Charlie Kirk’s murder timeline
“Levante Every Voice and Sing has been held at the League events since 2020 after the murder of George Floyd and the 2020 summer events, including last Thursday during the launch game in Philadelphia. It is also held before the Super Bowl,” the statement continued.
“This summer before the game of the Hall of Fame in Canton, the league honored the victims and those who affected the attack in 345 Park Avenue. During the games of week 18 last season, the NFL honored the victims of Bourbon Street Terrorist Attack. Also, that season, the NFL kept a moment to recognize the fallen of the crashes of Washington, DC and Philadelphia and also before the Hi -Hikes Hi -Hiker cards.
At least a NFL team has already made a point to fire an employee who made insensitive comments after Kirk’s murder.
The Carolina Panthers fired Charlie Rock, a member of the team’s communications department, after publications on social networks linked to rock seemed to show him by questioning why people were sad that Kirk had been shot dead.
“The opinions expressed by our employees are their own and do not represent those of the Carolina Panthers,” the team said in a statement published on social networks. “We do not tolerate the violence of any kind. We are taking this matter very seriously and, consequently, we have addressed it with the individual.”
In another part of the American sports, the Yankees and the New York Chicago puppies maintained a moment of silence before the recent games to honor Kirk after the murder on Wednesday. Meanwhile, MLB has ordered all teams that, at least, maintain all the American flags in the middle of the weekend during the weekend in honor of Kirk.
“MLB asked all the clubs to follow the direction of the presidential proclamation of the White House and the floss flags in half of the stadiums in their stadiums,” said a MLB spokesman for Pak Gazette Digital.
The NHL, the NBA and the WNBA have not made official statements that address the murder of Kirk. Pak Gazette Digital has communicated with the three leagues to ask if they would, but has not received an answer.
