When Field Marshal Shedeur Sanders fell from the first round of the NFL 2025 draft, there were some that could not believe that it would not have been chosen by an organization, although it was not considered a total shock.
But with Friday night watching three quarters more than not called Sanders left the draft board, the reaction was pure shock.
Sanders, the field marshal of the Colorado Buffaloes who was a finalist of the Heisman Trophy this last university season, remains available on the third and last day of the NFL Draft. There have been 102 prospects removed from the board, and with Round 4 that begins at noon in Green Bay, everyone wonders which NFL team will finally press the Sanders trigger.

Surprise and shock may not be the words to describe this fall in the draft of the table, possibly the greatest we have seen in the recent memory for someone who many considered, at least, a selection of day 2.
Why is this happening for Sanders? It is the question in everyone’s mind, including ESPN Booger McFarland, who thinks that the answer is beyond the tape.

“It has to be more than football,” he said during the NFL draft transmission on the network. “It is the best pure pin that you can write. When you start seeing development projects such as Jalen Milroe and Dillon Gabriel, and nothing against those boys, but they are almost not the player that Shedeur Sanders is. When they go in front of him, the only thing you can say is that it is more than football.”
Tyler Shough (New Orleans Saints), Milroe (Seattle Seahawks) and Gabriel (Cleveland Browns) were selected on Friday night in the respective order. Gabriel, especially, was the icing on the cake for those who were bewildered that Sanders had not left the board, since some experts did not have it in their five best qualifications of quarterback in the draft.
Mel Kiper Jr., the former NFL Draft analyst with ESPN, has remained firm about Sanders’ talent, classifying it as the best prospect of his great board. I was vocal that Sanders left the first round on Thursday night, but was horrified to see what happened the next day.
“I think it’s disgusting,” he said during a long penator after day 2 arrived and left. “I don’t understand what is happening with this … that someone will have to explain that to me.”
Joel Klatt, who called several buffalos games this last university season for Fox Sports, has seen what Sanders can do for a football program in person.

During the transmission of the NFL Network, Klatt pointed to the finger to the stories that were built on Sanders during the process prior to the draft on a reason why it is slipping.
“Shedeur represents everything I don’t like about the NFL draft, and it’s just one thing: they are the narratives. They are the stories that are built, lazy and, frankly, garbage. When you go out as an anonymous source about a meeting you had, and do not think that a child measured me what you wanted to be when he walked in your room, I think it is a torture.
“Shedeur Sanders will be a good field marshal in the National Soccer League, and I think he will make a chief coach and a fan base very happy, because he has already done it in his career in what I think is a very difficult focus for his father at the University of Colorado and a program that was nothing before two decades.”
Shedeur Sanders remains confident as impressive draft of the NFL Hits Draft Final Day: ‘Thank God for everything’
At the same time, Klatt also believes that this is the time that Sanders reflects, because the analyst feels that it is not the tape that is causing this free fall.
“His game in the field would suggest that he should have already been selected,” Klatt explained. “There were some Quarterbacks, his game in the field probably does not guarantee a selection on his game in the field.
“The reason why it is not recruited at this time is for the person who sat down with those teams and not, for any reason, did not conquered themselves with them.”
It is not just the analysts who think about the situation of the Sanders Draft, even President Donald Trump jumped to the mixture to say how crazy he was.
“What happens to the owners of the NFL, are stupid? Deion Sanders was a great university soccer player, and was even greater in the NFL. He is also a very good coach, streetwise and intelligent! Therefore, Shedeur, his son of Marshal, has phenomenal genes, and is ready for greatness,” Trump wrote in a social publication of truth.
ESPN presenter Stephen A. Smith called him “a damn misfortune.” The chief coach of the Denver Broncos, Sean Payton, who already has a young quartback after taking Bo Nix in the first round in recent years, admitted his surprise and even the Buffaloes football account in X published 10 minutes in the most prominent aspects of Sanders, only to remember all the good that can be on the grid.
These reactions are only the tip of the iceberg, since the world of football continues to be baffled that Sanders is available in the fourth round on Saturday.

After the final selection was made in Ronda 3, Sanders, who has been surrounded by friends and family at home, including his father and the coach of Colorado Deion Sanders, published in X.
“Thank God for everything,” he wrote.
Of the teams that are still looking for a new potential quartback in the depth table, the Pittsburgh Steelers, which is believed to be an option in rounds 1 and 3, are still a favorite, as are the Raiders of Las Vegas.
