New York shot: What to know about Shane Tamura, gunman who killed 4, including the New York policeman in the center of Manhattan

A New York police officer killed in the shooting has been identified as Didarul Islam, 36, a Bangladesh immigrant who left two children and a pregnant wife, according to NYPD. He was one of the two uniformed officers in 345 Park Avenue when the shooting occurred, although he was out of service working on Monday as a security for Rudin Management Company inside the building.

“We are deeply grateful to the law agents who responded to this threat quickly and decisively and the Islam officer, who gave his life to protect others,” said Goodell.

The New York Police Commissioner, Jessica Tisch, identified the shooter, who acted alone, as Shane Tamura, 27, a resident of Las Vegas with a history of mental health problems.

Tisch said Tamura traveled through the country, and his vehicle was last seen in Columbia, New Jersey, as recently as 4:24 PM that was not long before unleashing a flood of shots in the building of great height.

The security video shows Tamura entering the lobby in 345 Park Avenue and immediately opening fire, shooting several people. Then he shot a security guard behind a desk with an M4 assault rifle, Tisch said.

Tamura waited for an elevator, where she allowed a woman to leave unharmed before taking him to the 33rd floor. He proceeded to shoot and kill another person before taking his life, police said.

Tamura had a license to bring a hidden weapon in Nevada.

The New York Police are cleaning each floor of the building to make sure they were all safe, and there were no other shooters present.

As part of his letter to employees, Goodell mentioned the resources of the League that are available to help employees deal with the tragic event.

“As you know, there are significant resources available for all employees, including grieving counselors,” said Goodell. “Soon, HR will send more information about available resources and how to take advantage of them.

“Those based in New York should work remotely.

Each of you is a valuable member of the NFL family. We will overcome it together. “
