While Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence put forth a tremendous effort to score the game-winning touchdown, Kansas City Chiefs star defensive tackle Chris Jones showed little effort in the Jaguars’ 31-28 victory.
The Jaguars fell 28-24 with 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter Monday night at Everbank Stadium, but the offense was at the one-yard line.
Lawrence went to pass, but his offensive lineman fell. He stood up, threw a tackle and then dove into the end zone for a touchdown.

Jones, on the other hand, tried to rush the passerby, but when he saw Lawrence getting off, he crawled towards him, but then inexplicably stopped chasing him. Jones took a couple of steps toward the handsome Lawrence and then stood up and watched him score.
“I thought several times we had it,” Jones said after the play. “We just have to finish. We have to finish. Multiple guys there we have to finish that play. It was a fluke play for him to be able to break that many tackles. Yeah, I take it as a defense. We have to finish. We have to take him down on that.”
Fans called out Jones for his online effort.
The Chiefs fell to 2-3 with the loss, and Patrick Mahomes lamented the team’s struggles this season.

“It just speaks to our entire season,” Mahomes said of the mistakes and penalties that have contributed to his struggles. “I feel like we’ve got the guys and we’ve executed at certain points in the game and we looked really good and then we got crushed with penalties and mistakes and interceptions and fumbles or whatever it was.”
“It’s just that we’ve done that to ourselves all year. It’s been a guy here or there and in this league, it’s so close that those changes change. We’ve got to do better. We’ve lost too many games already. We’ve got to find a way to be better as a team and come together and play better for the rest of the season.”

Jones has been a pillar of the team’s success, having made the Pro Bowl in each of the last six seasons. This season in five games, Jones has one sack and seven combined tackles.
For the Chiefs to turn things around, they will need Jones to be at his best. Their next game is against the Detroit Lions (4-1) on Sunday at 8:20 PM ET.
