The NFL announced on Tuesday that the security of the Houston Texans, Jimmie Ward, was placed on the Reserve/Commissioner Exemption List.

Ward, 34, faces a serious crime of domestic violence derived from an arrest in June. He was accused of assaulting a family or member of the home after a woman told the authorities that Ward strangled her and threatened her, according to police records.

Ward was arrested again in August for violating the bond for that position.

Players in the commissioner’s exempt list cannot attend practices or games. The duration of time on the list is determined by Commissioner Roger Goodell.

“We are aware of the report that involves Jimmie Ward. We are collecting information and we have no more comments at this time,” the Texans said in a statement to NFL.com in June.

Ward was accused of physically and sexually assaulting the mother of her 3 -year -old son under the influence of glass methamphetamine, according to a demand filed last week in Texas.

The lawsuit accused Ward of suffocating Cristy West, with whom he had a long -term relationship, and looks for more than $ 20 million in damages. West is represented by Tony Buzbee, who has represented many victims in many cases of high profile sexual aggression and domestic violence.

Ward had not practiced during the training camp while dealing with a foot injury and was placed on the physical list of not being able to perform.

He is entering his third season with the Texans and the 12 of his career. Ward spent the first nine seasons of his career with the San Francisco 49ers.

Last season, Ward served as team captain. In 10 games, Ward had 48 combined cups, two interceptions and four passes defended. One of his interceptions was returned for a touchdown.

CJ Gardner-Johnson and Calen Bullock are expected to start safely for Houston in the absence of Ward.
