Kirk Cousins’ career with the Minnesota Vikings came to an end a little over a year ago. The veteran Campo Mariscal signed a four -year contract with the Atlanta Falcons last March.
The state of Cousins is still a backdrop for the Falcons plans for the NFL draft on Thursday. The veteran signal call left some surprised observers when he reported during the first day of the volunteer of the team’s low season.
But, the general manager of the Falcons, Terry Fontenot, said he was not among the group that was surprised by the appearance of Cousins.
“I wouldn’t say a surprise,” said Fontenot. “This is a voluntary thing. Whether a player comes or does not come, we have many good professionals who know they will take care of their bodies, including Kirk.”

The arrival of Cousins to Atlanta the last low season presented him another opportunity to begin, but his time as head of the Falcons was finally short. After a series of interception actions, the Falcons presented the cousins in December in favor of the then boyfriend Michael Penix Jr.
Cousins remained the support of the last three games of the season, and many believed that he had taken his last click with a Falcons uniform.

Since the end of the regular season, the Falcons try to exchange cousins to another franchise have not been successful. Atlanta has been reluctant to free the field marshal, probably due to financial implications. The Cousins salary for the next season is fully guaranteed.

Fontenot has said that the team feels comfortable that cousins remain with the team as support for the 2025 season. The Falcons chief coach, Raheem Morris, echoed similar feelings in the recent NFL meetings in Florida, saying that the team still feels “very strong that Kirk is our alternate field marshal.”

Morris also acknowledged that Cousins would like an opportunity to start, even if it were for another team.
“We will not stop it if the opportunity occurs,” said Morris. “He has made it clear that he would like to be a holder.”
Earlier this month, the owner of the Falcons, Arthur Blank, confirmed that he had an hour discussion with Cousins about his position with the team.
“I took five pages of notes, literally five pages of notes,” said Blank. “It couldn’t have been a more cordial and respectful conversation.”
WSB-TV was the first to inform the participation of cousins in the low season activity of the Falcons. His participation occurs in the middle of a report of the privileged information of the NFL of athletics, Dianna Russini, who declared that at least three NFL teams are interested in acquiring cousins.
Russini listed the Steelers, Browns and Vikings as club cousins could land. According to the terms of his contract, Cousins would have to give his approval before any trade in which he is involved becomes an official.
An exchange of cousins could materialize at some point during the draft, according to the report.
“It is believed that Cousins would be against any trade that involves sending it to a situation that involves a young QB, similar to the situation he faced in Atlanta last year. If an exchange occurred, he would expect to be reduced on Saturday,” Russini wrote.
Fontenot said his priority continues to try to improve the list of hawks.
“We are going to do the best for this football team, whether it is a trade or whatever,” Fontenot said when asked about his interest in exchanging cousins.
Falcons currently have selection No. 15 in the Draft.
