The NFL 2025 season officially starts next Thursday when the Dallas Cowboys visit the current Super Bowl champion, Philadelphia Eagles.

As the beginning of the season progresses, the teams throughout the league had to cut their respective lists to 53 men on Tuesday afternoon. While the open receptor Kendrick Bourne appeared on the initial depth list of the New England Patriots on Tuesday, the next day was renounced.

ESPN reported that Bourne’s launch occurred shortly after asking the Patriots a new start with another team.

Meanwhile, the defensive Marcus EPPS asked to be released on the cutting day, according to Boston Herald.

Mike Vrababel, who has faced the media sometimes during his first season as a coach of the Patriots, was asked to share his thoughts about unexpected releases. “I don’t know,” replied a somewhat guarded Vrabel. “Who do you mean, I suppose, specifically?”

After the journalist clarified the question was to refer to Bourne and EPPS, Vratabel compared the procedures with what often happens when a romance between two people reaches a crossroads.

“Yes, that is news for me,” said Vrabel.

“I mean, we …”, Vratabel began, before shaking his head. “Yes, I mean, I think we just try to assemble the list. I guess when it doesn’t work, you know, you break with someone, your girlfriend does not want to be with you. And then you say: ‘Well, I don’t want to be with you either.’ As I will not enter all that.”

Vrabel made it clear that he had no intention of participating in a long exchange on the matter.

“I just said I’m not going to get into that. Do you know what I mean? As, we are not going and coming here,” he said. “We are trying to build a list. You have to go from some types. You make connections with the boys. They train them. They win more opportunities, they get more opportunities, take advantage of them, and that’s how these things are going.”

EPPS spent time with three NFL franchises for six seasons. He appeared in three games with Las Vegas Raiders last year. Meanwhile, Bourne spent the last four years with the Patriots. The 2024 campaign with 28 receptions ended.

The Patriots receive the Raiders on September 7 to begin their regular seasonal board.
